If you’ve never tried Field Roast products, you really should. This Seattle-based company has been making tummies happy since 199, and they are more popular than ever before. We’ve been fans of them even before we turned vegan. We’ve gobbled up countless amounts of their amazing sausages, roasts, franks and deli slices with guilt-free glee.
The one product that was absent from their impressive line of grain “meats” were burgers. Mac and I had wondered why they never entered the ring of an ever-growing vegan burger industry. When we heard and even saw photos of the Field Roast Hand-Formed Burgers from the Natural Foods Expo West 2014 from our Cali-area friends and fellow bloggers, all we could ask was “When and where?!?!” We knew the burgers were a product to watch and our anticipation grew. When word came that they were officially launched, how stoked were we until we couldn’t find them ANYWHERE in the New York City area. It’s seems to be the story of our East Coast vegan lives.
A few weeks ago, Macaroon was giddy when she won a free pack of burgers through a VeganMoFo giveaway. However, not seeing them in any of our area stores: Whole Foods, Fairway, Mrs. Greens or even Stop & Shop, she asked the lovely folks at Field Roast where she could find them. Alas, the answer wasn’t much help. Nevertheless, the burgers would be ours someday and we were willing to wait.
Then, while sniffing around at the Weavers Way Co-op in the Mt. Airy section of Philly after some mini food crawling 2hrs from our home, we came across a pack of these little devils. Mac gasped loudly, which means there’s an amazing vegan find uncovered. To say we were excited is an understatement, for haven’t been able to find them in New York, as they’re not widely available nationwide yet. Like their other fine products, Field Roast Hand-Formed Burgers are just that, hand-formed. Their products have a subtle imperfect look to them, as now two packages are exactly the same. This is refreshing, as it lends their grain meats a homemade look.
As expected the burgers were boss. They didn’t have that generic soy taste that other brands . The burgers were lightly seasoned. They’re tasty enough that they actually doesn’t require condiments, but of course put ‘em on if you choose (Mac likes…Mac & Cheese on them). You can also crumble/chop them up and use them as stuffing or crumbles. Oh, and you can tell those protein-obsessed finger-wavers, that Field Roast Hand-Formed Burgers are packed with 24 effin grams of protein!
So, the next time you’re craving a “meaty” burger and don’t want to make it from scratch, get a pack of these yummies. Break out the grill (or grill pan), invite some omnivores, toast some buns and MANGIA!
